For centuries, people have searched for meaning in the smallest details of the human body. From palm lines to facial features, many cultures have believed that physical traits reveal personality, destiny, or even lifespan. One lesser-known belief centers around something we all have — the navel.
The navel, or belly button, is the very first scar of our lives. Before birth, the umbilical cord connected us to our mother, delivering nutrients and oxygen that allowed us to grow. After birth, the cord is cut, and what remains becomes a permanent mark — our navel.
Some traditional practices, including forms of omphalomancy (navel reading), suggest that the shape of this scar can reveal aspects of a person’s character or future. A German psychologist, Dr. Gerhard Reibmann, even explored the idea in his book Centered: Understand Yourself Through Your Navel, proposing that the navel holds clues about personality and life patterns.
While modern science does not support these claims, many people still find these interpretations fascinating and fun to explore.
